1. Julius Gordon Africana Center

The internationally recognised Julius Gordon Africana Centre (Versfeld House), built in 1880, houses the largest collection of Thomas Bowler paintings in South Africa. 5. Blombos Museum of Archaeology

The famous Blombos Museum of Archaeology is a short distance (30 minutes) from Riversdale in the coastal town of Stilbaai. The museum has artefacts of the ancient Khoi tribes who lived in this area thousands of years ago. Most of the artefacts were found when archaeologists excavated the Blombos cave.

Visit Stilbaai

Visit Stilbaai near Riversdale

Stilbaai is only 30 minutes from the town of Riversdale. It's a small seaside town perfect for swimming, rowing, sailing, skiing, fishing, bird watching and long walks on the beach. The famous Blombos Museum of Archaeology is located in Stilbaai and visitors will also be able to visit the ancient Fish Traps and Shell Middens.

7. Korentepoort Dam

Korentepoort Dam, located about 16–18 km from Riversdale in the Western Cape, is a popular nature reserve and water sports destination at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains. It offers bass fishing, canoeing, motorboating, and hiking, with accommodation including self-catering chalets, a rustic school building, and camping sites.

Visit the 'ou Tronk' Old Jail

The Old Jail & Coffee Shop is one of the oldest historical buildings in Riversdale – the original part was built in 1838. In 1860 the state purchased the building and turned it into a jail. Today you can enjoy delicious carrot cake, as well as light meals and browse the extensive range of antiques, gifts and plants in the old jail cells. The Old Jail is also a popular venue as it is home to a replica of the gallow which used only once within the history of Riversdale.
